
Announced on 3 June 2026, the Government's ICE2EV EV Scrappage Scheme is designed to help motorists move from older petrol or diesel vehicles to new electric vehicles.
A budget of €10 million has been allocated to the scheme, with:
Applications will be assessed using the applicant's Eircode, based on CSO urban and rural classifications. Once the allocated budget for either category has been exhausted, that category will close.
To qualify for the ICE2EV EV Scrappage Scheme, you must meet the following criteria:
✔ The scheme applies only to new grant-eligible M1 Electric Vehicles registered as private vehicles from 262 registration onwards
✔ Applications can be submitted from 1 July 2026
✔ Any vehicle scrapped before the application date will not qualify for the scrappage allowance
✔ The vehicle being scrapped must be a private passenger car
✔ The vehicle must be 2013 or older
✔ The vehicle must have been owned by the applicant for a minimum of 12 months before scrappage
✔ The vehicle must have:
✔ The vehicle must be scrapped through the Renault dealer from whom the new eligible EV is being purchased
✔ Private scrappage arrangements will not be accepted
✔ The scrappage allowance and applicable grant will be deducted directly from the purchase price of your new EV
✔ The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) will reimburse the dealer for the approved grant and scrappage amounts
✔ The scheme will remain open until the allocated €10 million budget has been exhausted. Once the scrappage fund is fully allocated, the scrappage scheme will close, although standard EV purchase grants will continue to be available (subject to eligibility)
The name and address of the applicant must match across the following:
If the address or Eircode on your application and invoice differs from the address shown on the logbook of the scrapped vehicle, a recent proof of address in the applicant's name will be required.
If the vehicle being scrapped is registered in the name of a cohabiting partner, the application may still be accepted, provided valid proof of shared address is supplied.
